Lihovar – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ snippet)

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Lihovar District — getting here and parking, dining, Lihovar Gallery, the Lihovar Chimney, Musoleum David Černý, tickets, events, partnering with us and living at Lihovar.

What is Lihovar District?

Lihovar District is Prague's newest district for culture, dining, events and everyday life, created by transforming the industrial site of a former distillery in Smíchov. It brings together dining, art and culture — Lihovar Gallery, Musoleum David Černý, the Lihovar Chimney — public space for events, and, in the future, homes to live in.

Where is Lihovar located?

Lihovar – Food & Art District is located at Nádražní 2, 150 00 Prague 5 – Smíchov, on the left bank of the Vltava, close to Smíchovské nádraží metro station.

What is the history of Lihovar?

The story began in 1836, when the original distillery was founded on the site. Today the former industrial complex is entering a new chapter: preserving its industrial character — including the landmark chimney and the historic Varna Brewhouse — while making space for culture, connection and everyday city life.

Who is behind the Lihovar project?

Lihovar is developed by Trigema a.s., the Czech development and investment group leading its transformation. For Trigema founder Marcel Soural, Lihovar has never been simply a development project — the ambition from the start was to preserve the site's industrial identity while giving it a new purpose of its own, with its own culture, community and everyday life, drawing inspiration from how industrial heritage became the starting point for a new district at King's Cross in London.

Bringing that vision to life is a group of specialist partners — see the next question for who they are and what they do.

How long does the Lihovar Chimney ride take?

The whole experience takes about 15 minutes, including boarding, the ride itself, and time to enjoy the view and audiovisual experience.

What are the Lihovar Chimney's opening hours?

The Lihovar Chimney operates daily from 10.00 to 22.00.

How do the time slots work?

Tickets for the Lihovar Chimney are booked for a specific time. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before your booked slot to allow enough time for check-in.

Capacity for each ride is limited, so we recommend buying your ticket online in advance.

How many people fit in the viewing capsule?

Each ride has capacity for 4 people.

How high does the lift go, and what will I see?

The viewing lift takes you up alongside Lihovar's historic chimney to a height of approximately 50 metres, opening up views of Prague and its surroundings.

The ride itself is more than just a trip upward — it's part of an audiovisual experience connecting Lihovar's industrial history, modern technology and unique views of the city.

What happens in bad weather?

Visitor safety always comes first. In extreme weather conditions, such as strong winds or storms, operation may be temporarily limited or suspended.

If we need to cancel your booked ride for safety reasons, we'll inform you of next steps by email, using the address provided with your booking.

Is the ride suitable for people afraid of heights or with claustrophobia?

We recommend that anyone with claustrophobia or other difficulties related to being in a lift consider the nature of the experience before purchasing a ticket.

Is the Lihovar Chimney accessible?

Yes, the Lihovar Chimney is fully accessible, so visitors with reduced mobility can enjoy the experience too.

Can I bring my dog into the lift?

For safety and capacity reasons, dogs are not allowed in the lift.

Can I bring a large bag, backpack, food or drink?

Due to the capsule's limited capacity, we recommend bringing only a small personal bag (such as a handbag).

Eating and drinking during the ride is not permitted, unless a special event is taking place.

Can I take photos or film during the ride?

Photography and filming for personal, non-commercial use is not permitted.

Professional or commercial photography and filming is only possible by prior arrangement at [email protected].

What happens if I arrive late?

Due to limited capacity and the precise schedule of each ride, we cannot guarantee entry at your booked time if you arrive late.

We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before your booked time. If you miss your slot, please speak to our staff, who will check availability for one of the following free slots. Availability of an alternative slot cannot be guaranteed.

How can I buy a ticket?

Tickets for Lihovar Gallery, the Lihovar Chimney and other paid experiences can be purchased conveniently online at vstupenky.lihovar.cz.

Once your order is complete, you'll receive an e-ticket that you simply show on your phone at entry. There's no need to print it.

Can tickets also be bought on site?

Discounted combined tickets are also available, letting you enjoy multiple Lihovar District experiences in a single visit.

What is Musoleum?

Musoleum David Černý is a permanent exhibition by David Černý (b. 1967), one of the most talked-about names in contemporary Czech art — known internationally for bold, large-scale public works such as the crawling Tower Babies on Prague's Žižkov Television Tower and the push-up-performing London Booster bus. At Lihovar, Musoleum is a cultural anchor for the entire district: an independent destination that draws visitors from across the city and far beyond.

Where is Musoleum located?

Musoleum occupies five floors of the historic Varna Brewhouse, part of the original Lihovar distillery complex. Left empty for over 20 years, the listed building was revitalised in 2021 by Trigema and architecture studio Blacknarch — since it couldn't be torn down, it became, in David Černý's own words, "not a museum but more of a musoleum." It sits right at the heart of Lihovar District, an easy combination with Lihovar Gallery, the Lihovar Chimney and dining nearby.

What are Musoleum's opening hours?

Musoleum is open daily from 10.00 to 22.00, in line with the rest of Lihovar District.

How much time should I allow for a visit to Musoleum?

We recommend around 1 hour, though the length of your visit is entirely up to you.

Can I combine a visit to Musoleum with Lihovar Gallery and the Lihovar Chimney?

Yes. Lihovar District is designed as a place where you can combine art, architecture, dining and other experiences in a single visit. Discounted combined tickets are available for visitors.

What events take place at Lihovar?

Lihovar District hosts a varied programme: live music and gigs, immersive art and exhibitions, markets and pop-ups, outdoor cinema, talks, workshops and community events.

Where can I find the current events programme?
